Learn fun Western dance this summer

Wanda Ross

Western dancing is very fun. You could learn to kick up your heels and be a little bit country this summer. On Wednesdays in July from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Dottie and Harry Adams will be teaching Western pattern dances. These dances are like doing line dancing with a partner and are often considered to be the easiest dances to learn. Cowboy boots and hats are not required. No need to bring your own partner either. Classes are held in the Mariposa Room at DesertView. Mark your calendar for these dates: July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. Come to one, two or more classes. Classes are free but sign up is required, so contact Dottie at [email protected].

On Wednesdays in August from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Brian Hand and Sheila Honey will be teaching the Texas Two Step. They moved here from the Western dance floors of Austin, Texas so you’ll be learning from accomplished two steppers. Cowboy boots and hats are not required for these classes either, but you are welcome to wear them if you like. Classes are held in the Mariposa Room at DesertView. Mark your calendar for these dates: August 7, 14, 21 and 28. Come to as many classes as you want, some or all. Classes are free but sign up is required, so contact Brian at [email protected].

Also, you can join our casual open dance sessions on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the Vermilion Room and on Sundays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom. These are open to anyone who wants to practice what they learned in lessons or simply dance.

All dance classes are free for SaddleBrooke One or SaddleBrooke TWO members, but you must be a member of the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club. Membership is only $15 per year. Join today, and let the dancing begin. For more information, go to our club website at www.sbballroomdance.com.
