“Cybersecurity: How People are Manipulated into Revealing Confidential Information” is the topic for our free presentation on Friday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom. Our speaker is Terry Stager, proprietor of Oracle Computer Solutions. Terry practiced as a clinical psychologist before changing careers and provides a unique perspective on the problem. This presentation is open to all SaddleBrooke residents and their guests. Our public presentations will resume in September, hopefully on our traditional third Monday of the month.
Easter marks the end of our spring semester. Enrollment for our fall semester will open August 15 and our fall semester usually begins by the middle of September. Our first project this summer will be to upgrade our classroom PCs to the professional version of Windows 10; the unpredictability and hazards of forced updates for our home edition computers has proved to be too disruptive. We intend to offer a few summer classes once we conclude our annual equipment maintenance chores and software updates. While the summer break is an opportunity to “field test” new classes, new instructors and new software, we do like to beat the heat by visiting cooler locales just like everyone else.

New members pay $55/single or $80/couple to join the club and enroll in any class on a space available basis for the entire calendar year. Established members pay a $35 annual fee to enroll in subsequent years.
Computer tidbits: If Microsoft follows its longstanding practice, Windows Update servers will begin delivering the Windows 10 version 1903 update in early April to current installations of Windows 10. Cautious Windows 10 users should backup critical files before installation; owners of the Pro version may also want to postpone new “feature updates” for a few months until the usual bugs have been swatted.
If you currently use Windows 7, it is time to prepare to replace some of your equipment. Support for nearly 600 million Windows 7 users ends on January 14, 2020. Home users will need to move to Windows 10 or alternative systems for continued security updates. Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise users will be offered extended support until 2023 – for substantial fees.
Apple announced new iPads, iMacs and AirPods on March 22 and announced multiple new services including a news service and a video streaming service, including new Apple original content, at a launch event on March 25 in the Steve Jobs Theater.
