TRIAD drug drop off program resumes
Gary Hammond
For over a year now SaddleBrooke TRIAD volunteers have staffed a program for residents to dispose of unused or expired prescription and over the counter drugs at the Pinal County Sheriff’s Substation in the Mini Mart Mall (next to the bank). Over one hundred and twenty pounds of returned drugs have been safely incinerated so far this year and kept out of harm’s way.
Unfortunately the program has been suspended for several weeks due to an air conditioning problem at the Sheriff’s Substation. That’s been fixed now and the program resumed on Tuesday, September 23. The regular hours are from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the second Friday and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Please note that there are a few restrictions on the program. We are not able to accept liquids or sharps (needles) for disposal. We also cannot take the pill bottles or plastic bubble packaging that some medications come in. So at home, before you come, please dispose of the packaging (be sure to mark out any confidential information!) and just bring the pills or capsules themselves in a plastic baggy. That will make life so much easier for our volunteers. Thanks!
The SaddleBrooke TRIAD was founded in 2012 as a joint effort of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Pinal County Attorney, IMPACT of Southern Arizona (formerly Catalina Community Services), Golder Ranch Fire District and SaddleBrooke One Homeowners’ Association. The purpose is to heighten the awareness of all community residents, volunteers and community service providers about senior needs and to help provide the information and resources necessary to address those needs.
