Sy Efron is once again organizing the delivery of our donated crafts and toys to the children of the Diamond Children’s Centre. Please bring an unwrapped gift to the party suitable for a hospital setting and put a smile on a child’s face.
Our upcoming Ladies’ Coffee will be at the home of Sharon Triester, 62760 E. Amberwood Drive, on December 8 at 10:00 a.m. Please RSVP by December 1 to either Sharon at 825-9880 or Barbara Kessler at 818-6660.
To make this event a continuing success, we need all our women members to step up and volunteer to host every other year. If you haven’t hosted in the past year, then please do so. Only drinks and a small nosh are required – nothing hot and nothing fancy. To host a Ladies’ Coffee, kindly contact Leslie Nagy at [email protected]
The first meeting of the Co-Ed Book Club dealt with Judas by Amos Oz and as usual the quality of the discussion was very high. There was general agreement on the quality of the Amos Oz’s writing and wonderful translation. Perhaps the theme of the discussion revolved around “the traitor.” There were a couple in this story. What were their motivations? What were the reactions to their “traitorous” acts? What philosophies informed their acts? Each character was discussed in depth. There were endless opinions about the allegories between this story and modern and biblical history.
Everyone present came at the book from different perspectives and had issues with differing aspects of the story; however, that only served to make the discussion more engaging.
On December 14 we will be discussing All Who Go Do Not Return by Shulem Deen which is a most interesting autobiography of an ultra-orthodox Hasid who lost his faith in religion and God. We will meet at the home of Sandy Epstein with the discussion facilitated by Daryl Cohen. Please RSVP to Sandy by December 11. Come at 11:45 a.m. for a snack and conversation. Bring a bag lunch if you want.
Because of the nice response we have facilitators for all the discussions this year. If you are interested only in hosting a meeting let Sandy Epstein know which month you’d like to help. To volunteer, please contact Sandy Epstein at [email protected].
JFG dues for 2018 of $18 per person are due in January. You can bring a check to the Chanukah party or send them to Laurie Colen, 63845 E. Orangewood Lane.
