SaddleBrooke’s own community theatre group, The PrimeTime Players, is looking for talented, energetic and creative actors for our upcoming spring production of The House of Tomorrow, written by Susan Shear. The House of Tomorrow is an original comedy/drama loosely based on a concept by Scott Williams, a well known London artistic director.
The play consists of 25 scenes that are independent of one another yet connected by a common theme about changes in our lives as we age. Stories focus on what’s important to us, how we handle the challenges before us and how we remain hopeful and positive as we move ahead. While the play is not a full musical, there are six songs written by Scott Williams that accompany the show. In the show, most actors will be required to sing only one group chorus number and no solos. Do not let your singing ability keep you from auditioning. Character acting is our priority! In a style similar to The Dining Room, which our group produced in 2012, an ensemble cast will play over 50 different roles of varying ages. Portraying many roles requires actors who are able to switch parts quickly, work well in a team and develop nuanced, believable characterizations. Memorization is required. There will be no double casting.
Cold Reading Auditions will be held November 5 and 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at MVCC; plan on attending both days.
Vocal Auditions will be held November 7 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at DVPAC
Rehearsals will be January through March, 2015
Performances are scheduled for March 24 to 29, 2015, in the MountainView Cabaret Theatre.
Perhaps the best way to sum up The House of Tomorrow is with lyrics from the opening number: “There’s a house, it’s not very far, oh, Find a house there’s no room for sorrow, Build a house, a house of tomorrow, fill it up with love.” For more information and a schedule to peruse, please contact Susan Shear at [email protected] or 825-8876.
