October 22: Lunch and Learn What We Can Do About Domestic and Elder Abuse
On October 22, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, County Attorney Lando Voyles and Dr. Tascha Spears, Director of the Family Advocacy Centers of the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, will be headliners at a special luncheon. The lunch and presentation, Domestic Violence: What Can Our Community Do About It? sponsored by the SaddleBrooke Coalition Against Domestic Violence (SCADV), will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Vistas Dining Room at SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse.
Sheriff Babeu, Attorney Voyles and Dr. Spears are all actively involved in and proponents of establishing and improving advocacy centers that serve victims of sexual abuse and family violence in Pinal County. The Arizona Child and Family Advocacy Network headed by Dr. Spears provides support, training and guidance to all advocacy centers in Arizona and their professionals who coordinate services and respond to family violence and sexual assault. All three speakers will address the overall problem of domestic violence, including recent statistics for SaddleBrooke, identifying domestic abuse, how advocacy centers aid victims and steps that individuals can take when domestic abuse, including elder abuse, is suspected.
The luncheon menu will include chicken picata with white/wild rice and a tossed side salad and rolls. A vegetarian alternative will also be available: a grilled portabella mushroom with polenta tower and a tossed side salad. Dessert will be vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. Tickets are $10 and will be available on September 10 and 11 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the HOA 1 Clubhouse entry. Tickets will also be available on Trivia Tuesdays, September 9 and 16, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. again at the SaddleBrooke HOA1 Clubhouse entry. Checks should be made to SCADV and the deadline for ticket sales is October 10. Seating is limited to 150 persons.
SCADV is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works to provide information about domestic abuse, particularly elder abuse, and also helps support advocacy centers such as the Safe Journey House in San Manual.
