Marilyn Anthony
December was a busy month for everyone and the JFG activities reflected this.
Our first No-Host Ladies’ Coffee took place at MountainView Bistro with more than 30 women filling the patio area completely. The day was the warmest on record for December and we all thoroughly enjoyed the company, the weather and the conversation. Brunch was pretty good, too! But again, for all those women considering hosting, it is not about the quantity of food provided but just offering us a time and a place to get together to chat and enjoy a cup of coffee and a small nosh.
In that more minimalist spirit, the January Ladies’ Coffee will be hosted by Marilyn Anthony on Tuesday, January 17 at 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP to [email protected] by January 10.
On February 23 the Ladies’ Coffee will be co-hosted by Linda Solomon and Sherry Marmorstein at Sherry’s home at 10:30 a.m.
For the traditional Christmas Chinese Dinner the JFG gathered at Sakura Sushi where we had the restaurant to ourselves. And of course, our Chanukah Dinner was enjoyed by a full house of members. Thanks to everyone for bringing all the gifts for the children at the Diamond Centre.
January 25 finds us at the Mesquite Grill for a Mediterranean Buffet with Mediterranean green salad, lemon garlic chicken, herb crusted cod with red sauce and Kalamata olives, couscous, ratatouille and flat bread. Cookies and coffee will end the evening.
Cost: $21 per person including tip and tax.
Deadline for reservations is Friday, January 13, 2017. Checks as usual go to Laurie Colen. Hope to see everyone there for a fun evening together.
Our meeting on February 25 will be at HOA 1 Activity Center for our annual Jewish Trivia/Potluck Evening. Time to start studying!
The Co-ed Book Group will be discussing Michael Chabon’s The Jewish Policeman Union on January 12 at the home of Barb and Jack Rosenthal. This is a sci-fi book based on the premise of a Yiddish speaking Sitka, Alaska set up temporarily during WWII.
The book for February is Pumpkinflowers: A Soldier’s Story of a Forgotten War, by Matti Friedman. This is a memoir of the Israel/Lebanon conflict and, unlike January’s book, deals with an all too real war.
It is once again time to renew your membership in the JFG in the amount of $18 per person for 2017. Please send checks to Laurie Colen.
The Board of the JFG is currently planning future activities. If you have any suggestions for events, please do contact any Board member. Conversely, should you be unhappy with any events we put on, please let us know. We count on your support and encourage you to join our regular activities which are solely intended to encourage Jewish friendships throughout SaddleBrooke.
