Chronic pain affects over 86 million people in America and it seems to resist many medical treatments. One of the most common complaints is back pain. Back pain is often caused by facet arthropathy.
The next speaker at Health Night Out, Dr. Efrain I. Cubillo of the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona (PISA), will discuss facet arthropathy which is often called degeneration and arthritis of the spine. Today’s field of pain management offers non-invasive treatments to this chronic ailment. Dr. Cubillo will review the symptoms of facet arthropathy and present current treatments.
Dr. Efrain I. Cubillo IV, a native Arizonan, received his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Arizona State University and completed his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the highest academic honor in medical school. He was also elected by his peers to receive the Gold Humanism Award which exemplified his caring treatment of patients. He completed his Anesthesiology Residency at the Mayo Clinic where he was awarded The Mayo Clinic Spirit Award, the most prestigious award for a Mayo resident. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Dr. Cubillo is trained in all areas and techniques of pain medicine including physical medicine and diagnosis, neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, sympathetic blockade, spinal injection techniques, spinal cord stimulation/implantation and radiofrequency ablation.
