On Sunday, February 10 members of the SaddleBrooke Swim Club braved the wind and cold and participated in the Oro Valley Masters Relay Meet. SaddleBrooke Masters dominated the event not only swimming in the relay competitions but also assisting, helping to set up, timing, counting and officiating. Only one other Arizona Masters Swim Club competed and that was the (Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team (FAST) from Oro Valley. The events included the 800-yd. Freestyle Relay, the 200-yd. Medley Relay, the 400-yd. Medley Relay, the 200-yd. Freestyle Relay and the 400-yd. Freestyle Relay. Swimmers competed in age groups and on Men’s, Women’s and/or Mixed Relay Teams. There were four events in which SaddleBrooke Masters had enough competitors to have two relay teams competing. SaddleBrooke Masters had the oldest Masters Team consisting of four men over the age of 85. Many thanks to SaddleBrooke Swim Club Coaches who helped prepare swimmers for this competition (Doug Springer, Jay Selnick, Mark Randall, Leslie Fore, Steve and Debi Truesdale), to Joyce Howard, Laurie Loose, Jeff Eighmy, Phil Simpson and Jay Selnick for officiating and to Joan Pierce, Gisela Peter, Nancy Springer and numerous volunteer timers who all made this meet highly successful.
