The SaddleBrooke Lady Niners started off 2018 with their annual Founder’s Cup Tournament, a tournament dedicated to the ladies who founded the Lady Niners League in 1990. This event was originally named the Liz Carlson Tournament, named after one of the founding mothers. In 2006 the name was changed to the Founder’s Cup, but the purpose was the same–to honor those ladies who made our league a reality.
After a delicious luncheon in the Vistas Dining Room, our general meeting was held. President Debbie Thompson thanked our two pros Bernie Eaton and Troy Jewkes, our Course Superintendent Mike Roddy, and our photographer Bob Koblewski. After introductions of our new members and our 2018 Board members and committee chairs, Charlotte James made the announcement we had all been waiting for, the winner of the 2018 Founder’s Cup Tournament. Our champion for this year is Hedy Gryszan. Congratulations, Hedy!
As we learned at our meeting, we have many exciting events coming up in the near future. The first of these is our annual Across the Brooke Tournament. For this one, we get together with our sister Niners from MountainView. Each foursome is made up of two SaddleBrooke Niners and two MountainView Niners, and this year it will be played at MountainView. This event is scheduled for February 13, and promises to be as much fun as ever.
Another big event coming up for our league is our bi-annual invitational. For this event, we invite ladies from 32 different clubs ranging from Phoenix to Green Valley. Our chairperson Robbie Summers has already had her committee hard at work putting together this wonderful event. Our theme this year is Aloha, and we expect our usual large turnout for the putting games, breakfast, raffle prizes, entertainment and fashion show, and of course, a fun tournament with ladies from all different clubs pairing up with our ladies. This event will be held on March 26, and we are all really looking forward to a great day of golf and fun with new friends!
