Alessandra Soler will address SaddleBrooke Freethinkers on Sunday, November 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the MountainView Ballroom. Ms. Soler will discuss Privacy and Technology. She will address how technology affects our local police practices, virtual border security and national surveillance issues such as NSA work and internet tracking.

Alessandra Soler has been the Executive Director of the Arizona Chapter of the ACLU. Under her leadership, the ACLU of Arizona has grown from a staff of 4 to 16 with the addition of attorneys and policy and communications staff. Through litigation, the ACLU of Arizona has secured important legal victories on behalf of members of the LGBTQ community, incarcerated individuals, young immigrants and Latinos, including ending discriminatory racial profiling practices by former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Most recently, the ACLU of Arizona has engaged in numerous successful advocacy efforts limiting enforcement of Arizona’s notorious racial profiling law SB 1070.

SaddleBrooke Freethinkers provides a forum for the responsible search for truth and meaning in understanding the universe and in understanding and solving human problems by applying science and reason. We believe that tolerance, compassion, equity and civility should characterize the interaction among peace-loving persons and organizations. We strive to achieve these goals through meetings, lectures, discussions and other means of communication. In 2017 the SaddleBrooke Freethinkers initiated a $10 annual membership fee. In addition to the program events which are open to all, members will also enjoy member only events throughout the year.

The SaddleBrooke community is invited to attend Freethinkers meetings at 10:00 a.m. usually on the fourth Sunday of the month October through April.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 a.m. for pre-meeting coffee and fellowship. While members are free, non-members are asked to make a $2 donation to defray costs.

Information about Freethinkers, upcoming presentations and programs is at www.sbfreethinkers.wordpress.com. For questions or to be added to the email list, please send your contact information to: [email protected].

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and cash donations to meetings in support of the Tri-Community Food Bank.
