The SaddleBrooke Fine Arts Guild is up and running! Our spring classes were successful; students learned to paint and are eager for more.

We have several upcoming classes, so please read on for details.

“I Can’t Draw a Stick Figure!” Class

This popular class returns on June 15 for those who are uncertain about art, uncertain if you can produce any art, or just want to try out different mediums in art. The full-day class (with one hour for lunch on your own) will cover many aspects of art including watercolors, pastels, collage, and much more! The cost is $20, and class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Instruction and all supplies are included in your sign-up fee. Please call P. J. Cathey at 928-848-9656 or email her at [email protected]. The class will be held in the Activity Center in SaddleBrooke One.

Arizona Sunset Art & Wine Party!

This popular event will return on July 14 in the Activity Center in SaddleBrooke One from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Karen Brungardt will teach you how to paint an Arizona sunset in acrylics on canvas. Art Classes!

In the Topaz Room, we are pleased to offer summer classes. As more classes are added, they will be posted on our website at www.saddlebrookefinearts.org under Art Classes. Please also check the website for more detailed information on each class.

Watercolor Batik: June 10, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; cost $75 pp, $85 with all supplies included; Karen Brungardt, Instructor

This class teaches you how to combine wax, rice paper, and watercolor to make a fun and transparent painting. You supply the watercolor painting supplies, and I supply the rest ($85 if I supply everything).

Desert Birds in Watercolor: June 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; cost $75 pp, $85 with all supplies included; Karen Brungardt, Instructor

This class will teach you fun ways to paint desert birds, such as roadrunners, quail, and hummingbirds.

Using Textures Techniques in Watercolor: July 15, 1 to 4 p.m.; $35, $45 with all supplies include; Karen Brungardt, Instructor

In this class, we will use all kinds of interesting items to produce textures in watercolor, from spray bottles to salt to water and other items. We will do a project in which we’ll use these various techniques to make an interesting piece of art.

Painting Around: Aug. 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; $75, $85 with all supplies included; Karen Brungardt, Instructor.

This class will teach you how to “paint around” objects in watercolor to produce depth and layering. We will use masking to preserve white areas and painting around to produce the depth we want. The project will be floral.

Painting a Sunflower: June 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In this class, you will learn how to paint a sunflower using a glazing technique taught by Renee Pearson. You will learn to paint the sunflower, leaves, and background using the same layering technique Renee has taught in previous classes. She will send the supply list after you have signed up for the class. If you have any questions, email her at [email protected].
