Woodworkers Club

The Woodworkers Club’s July meeting was spent discussing building layout and reviewing safety and operation procedures for the new Woodworking Shop.

The Woodworking Shop is moving forward! Recent happenings reinforce this. The board, administration, and committee members are putting a fine point on all avenues of the project. At the Woodworkers Club’s July meeting, members continued to confirm safety and operational details of the plan. Many, many hours of research and detailing have been invested already to help move the project forward by SaddleBrooke One administration and board and by your dedicated club member neighbors.

Retired architects and safety engineers; industrial arts instructors; specialists in all phases of business, building, and industry; machinists and cabinetmakers; lifelong hobbyists and builders are just a sampling of our members’ backgrounds volunteering their time and expertise to ensure that correct economical plans are formulated, with safety utmost in everything. This is a complex puzzle, and it is challenging to assemble all the various pieces.

Architects hired by our board will be updated with our results after approval, confirming our commitment to ensure this is as cost-efficient and safe an operation as possible.

Pardon me for my prejudice here, but this may be the most valuable capital addition to SaddleBrooke One in a long time, not just in future value added to our facilities, but consider the day-to-day well-being of members in our community. Our collective well-being will be enhanced, as we finally have a major missing option for keeping our minds and bodies active well into our retirement journeys. Woodworking, enjoyed by many, has many facets of study and practice at many levels of difficulty. It is a great avenue for keeping our minds and bodies active, as well as socializing.

Seminars and demonstrations to educate the entire community are already open. Next up is Hand-Cut Dovetails. Future demonstrations will be on many different topics and techniques.

Join us if you have interest. We’d love to welcome you. Members ($10 annual dues currently) receive all updates and opportunities to help in this project as it moves forward. It’s a great group of all levels of experience and background who share their knowledge freely with each other and their neighbors.

We meet monthly on the first Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the MountainView Saguaro Room. Come visit or enjoy a demonstration or go to our website at www.sbwoodworkers.org.
