Fall Computer Club Classes – Cross Your Fingers
As previously reported, the Computer Club classroom is undergoing a major renovation, along with the rest of the HOA 2 Arts and Crafts Center. Based on the estimated completion date of September 15 provided to us earlier, we posted a class schedule on our calendar. Knowing that construction deadlines are frequently overly optimistic, we refrained from opening registration for these classes until we were more certain that the estimate was accurate. It wasn’t.
We are now advised that we will have occupancy on October 3. Assuming that happens, we will begin the monumental task of moving our equipment back into the classroom from storage, where it has been all summer, and reinstalling everything. This means running wiring, reassembling the desks, updating the computers, reconfiguring all supporting infrastructure and then testing the entire system. This process will take at least two weeks with a lot of help and long days of work from our volunteers.
Based on the above projections, we are now planning on opening the classroom for classes on October 24. We are crossing our fingers that we get access to the classroom as advised and that we have no unexpected complications in putting everything back together again.
Believe me, we are as frustrated as you are about this situation. But all we can do is watch and wait until the day comes where they say, “The room is yours.” When that happens, we will open up all scheduled classes for registration. In anticipation of a late October opening date, a number of classes have already been posted to our calendar. Check it out by going to our website: saddlebrookecc.org and clicking on the Calendar link. We will be sending out a notice to our members when the classes are open for registration. That will happen when the room is actually turned over to us and we are confident that the classroom will be ready for your use.
In The Meantime—
We are not totally out of business. September 19 saw the opening of our monthly User Group Meetings with a presentation on Smart Houses by Smart House Consultant Andrea Bianco. And on October 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the MountainView Clubhouse West Ballroom, club President Dennis Korger will tell us about the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Next month on November 21 we’ll be learning about, “Changes that help your computer, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch work together.” User Group meetings remain open to all SaddleBrooke residents. You do not have to be a member to attend these meetings.
Also, don’t forget our online classes, which – fortunately – are immune from the classroom renovation project. To access online classes, go to our website: saddlebrookecc.org and select Enrollment > eLearn from the top menu bar.
By this time next month we should be fully operational – classroom and all.
