New Website Is Online
We’ve been alluding to a new website for SaddleBrooke Computer Club for a couple of months. It is now online. Our webmaster Richard Beaty made a great effort to keep the look and feel of our old site on our new site so it will seem very familiar. Now when you go to www.saddlebrookecc.org you will see the new site, if you haven’t been there already. There are several new features so check the new site.
Our membership data base was uploaded to the new site in April and when the site went active you should have received an email from the site advising a temporary user name and password. If you have taken any classes between 2015 and now you should have received an email.
Remember that now we have two websites: a Public site and a Member site. The Public site gives all the necessary information about our club, classes and an FAQ section that will answer many questions you may have, an area for non-members to sign up online and the Login button.
If you are current on your class fee for 2017, you can use the Login button to access the Member site. A system email has or soon will be sent to all members with a user name and temporary password. Using this login information will open up the Member site, or if you are not current on your fees, it will give you the option of renewing your class fee online. The Member site includes the ability to sign up for classes and other member-specific functions.
Users Group Meetings
The April Users Group meeting was a double feature. First, Richard Beaty walked everyone through the new website; then Gloria Quigg gave an explanation of DNA tests and demonstrated the newest tools at Ancestry.com, which are your DNA matches, DNA Circles and the newest feature Genetic CommunitiesTM. This feature is still in Bata testing and is evolving.
The May Users Group meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., May 15 in MountainView Clubhouse, West Ballroom. Subject: TBA. Users Group meetings are open to all SaddleBrooke residents, whether you are a club member or not.
Classes
Check the website for our summer schedule of classes which will be held during June, July and August. One new class to look for is a series on RootsMagic. The classes will be 1 ½ hours long once a month in June, July, August and September. Each month will cover a different feature of the RootsMagic Genealogy software. You can sign up for all sessions or individual sessions as desired. Each session will be limited to 16 students. Students who sign up for all sessions will have preference over those who sign up for individual sessions. The instructor is Dave Tiefenbach and complete descriptions of each workshop, dates and enrollment will be on the website.
Did You Know—
You can now make credit card payments with your sunglasses. Yes, I said sunglasses.
Well actually, you can’t do that yet. It’s just a prototype. Visa demonstrated their latest payment accessory: a pair of sunglasses that had a small NFC chip embedded on the side. They showed how you could use the glasses to pay for stuff wherever tap-to-pay was accepted.
I’m assuming you can also use these sunglasses in the traditional way at the beach.
