The theme of the April 7 Fun Day was Butterflies, but even the birds and the bees along with the butterflies had a tough time getting around that windy morning. Five of the 18 holes putted, or attempted, were trick holes! We sincerely thank the Fun Day Committee of Marie Schmidt, chairperson, and Diana Carbone, Nancy Frazer, Fran Hampton, Lenny Hillis, Linda Malone, Caroline Rolfe and Cindy Romac for a truly fun morning followed by another delicious lunch in The Vistas.
The 22nd annual Founder’s Invitational on Sunday, April 13 as always was a great success. It was abundantly evident that the committee, chaired by Joan Chorost and Helen Schetky, worked extremely hard to put on such a wonderful event. Committee members included Judy Anick, Patsy Chase, Cynthia Chevalley, Nancy Frazer, Fran Hampton, Cathy Howard, Monica Light, Chris McFadden, Marilyn Palatas, Sharon Powers, Marion Ramsey, Thera Reed, Barbara Rempel, Caroline Rolfe, Marie Schmidt, Linda Lou Shaw, Laverne Tucker and Barbara Turner. A special thank you to Bud Chase, Bill Howard, Bob Smith and Ken Turner for helping their spouses on the all important setup subcommittee.
Prior to an outstanding dinner in The Vistas, dozens of door prizes were awarded but always a highlight of the Invitational is the drawing for the winner of Caroline Rolfe’s beautiful self-designed and hand crocheted afghan. Caroline donates one each year and this year’s lucky winner was Marie Schmidt. Better luck next year, ladies! Prizes were also awarded to the winning teams in the putting competition. First place winners were Pauline Guarino, Chris McFadden, Winnie Clay, Julie Brown and Sharon and Buck Wyles. Second place went to Barbara Rempel, Dana Belyea, Judy Anick, Marion Ramsey, Caroline and Brian Rolfe and Sherri and Rex Wyland. Third place winners were Sheila and Bill Abraham, Joni and Bob Campel, Lorraine and Earl Ezell and Lois and Tony Glorioso.
The final scheduled luncheon of the 2013-14 season will be May 5 in The Vistas and will include installation of officers as well as recognition awards for performance during this season. The Sputters are proud of their continuing contributions throughout the year to the area food banks and will be holding a mini food drive at this meeting. Dr. Cynthia Chevalley, Director of Tri-Community Food Bank and a long standing member and officer of Sputters, detailed the urgent need for extra donations during the summer months when children are not able to take advantage of breakfast and lunch at school.
The Verde Sputters meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday mornings at the HOA 1 putting green. Membership is open to any resident of HOA 1, 2 and The Preserve not belonging to a sanctioned SaddleBrooke golf group. For more information please contact Trudy Rossi at 225-0275 or Wanda Schultz at 825-5552.
