On Nov. 9, the Verde Sputters hosted the Lady Niners in a fun tournament. This is a partnership with a long tradition. How does this tournament work? Two Sputters team up with two Niners, and the Niners hit their shots to the greens, and then the Sputters take over and do the putting.
This year, we had 83 players excited to play this tournament, as they were unable to do so last year. Though we didn’t have equal Sputters to Niners, some Niners volunteered to be Sputters. Two teams had one Sputter, Barbara Turner, and out of the 18 putts, she made 16. That is less than two putts for each hole. Way to go, Barb!
The tournament was played on the SaddleBrooke and Tucson courses. On the SaddleBrooke course, the winners were: 1st place with a score of 36.13: LeAnn Ellingson, Linda Lewis, Julia Reece, Joan Chasanov; 2nd place with a score of 39.26: Nancy Fuller-Wilson, Karen Martin, MaryJo Swarzbert, Karen Simmons; 3rd place with a score of 41.56: Louise O’Donald, Sue Ryan, Janet Rasmusson. On the Tucson Course, the winners were: 1st place with a score of 38: Yvonne Garthwait, Hazel Roper, Harriett Rosenberg, Donna Bujnovsky; 2nd place with a score of 38.28: Shirley Morris, Barb Turner, Sheryl Nugent; 3rd place with a score of 41.32: Theresa Mares, Marilyn Palatas, Marty Wilkes, Carolyn Bewalda.
A 50/50 raffle ticket fundraiser was also conducted. The proceeds were divided 50% to the Tri-Community Food Bank and 50% to the holder of the matching tickets: Tara O’Donnell, Sheelagh Simpson, Lydia O’Connor, and the big winner, Karen Martin. Over $300 went to the Tri-Community Food Bank. Following the tournament, the ladies enjoyed a luncheon of chicken cordon bleu with mornay sauce, rice pilaf, broccolini, garden salad made with romaine lettuce, and a beverage station for coffee, tea, and water.
Thank you to all who attended and donated to the Tri-Community Food Bank.
See ya next time!
