Verde Sputters Event

BK Koch

On Jan. 20 the putting green was flooded with pink and green as 36 Verde Sputters hosted 36 Ranchette Putters in a challenging game. Laughter as well as a few expletives filled the air. The set-up and planning crew threw a lot of curves at the players. Our theme, “Jack Frost in the Desert,” was cleverly conceived and executed, with a focus on creativity, challenge, beauty, and, most importantly, fun! The teams were made up of two Verde Sputters and two Ranchettes. What a fantastic way to kick off our first event of 2025!

Thank you goes to the set-up and planning crew of Wendy Bellamy, Ann Grover, Carol Gurewitz, and Carrie Johnson for setting up the course. The smiling faces of LaVonne Ashwood and Sandra (formerly known as Sandy) Gerlach were perched at the sign-in desk telling you where to go. The lunch set-up was beautifully done by Jan Haney, Carolyn McLean, Opal Larkin, and Ann Grover. And a special thanks also to Donna Gruninger and Meah Hubble for their contribution on team set-up and stats, along with all the extra Sputters ladies who helped.

After the play, 78 guests arrived at the Vista for lunch of brisket, asparagus, potatoes, and, of course, a ladyfinger dessert. Next was the breathtaking moment to find out who won. The results were as follows: First place, taken with a combined average score of four players of 43.25, was Team 17. Taking that win and cash home were LaVonne Ashwood, Pam Young, Loren Weimer, and Sherry Brinster. Second place, with a combined average score of 43.75, was Team 9: Lara Berkley, Nancy Tagge, Gail Goede, and Mary Anne Frelund. Great job! Third place, with an average score of 43.75, was Team 7. Taking home their cash were Dawn Hecht, Sandy Buonarigo, Carri Johnson, and Karen Derdzinske. Fabulous job! Congratulations, ladies!

President Connie Kotke made an announcement that Verde Sputters will have an event coordinator. That coordinator will be Carri Johnson with a team consisting of Reba Johnson, Heather Griffin, and Wendy Bellamy, and don’t be surprised if she pulls you in to volunteer alongside her and her team. So, hold onto your hats, ladies, it’s going to be a fun ride!
