On Aug. 11, 53 Sputters and their guests filled the Vista dining room to play fun and games. Nine games of skill were set up. There were games and fun for all! There was Horse Racing, Darts, Hit the Barnyard Animals, Axe Throw, Horse Lasso, Ring Toss, and more, all inside the air-conditioned SaddleBrooke One clubhouse. Donna Gruninger was the brains behind this event, with her trusty helpers running the games. If we had cotton candy and popcorn, I would think I was at a county fair. After you completed the games and added up your team’s score, it was time to play Spin the Wheel, with Donna G. being the emcee, just like we were on Wheel of Fortune. Dinner consisted of hot dogs and sloppy joes, coleslaw, and potato salad. For dessert, we feasted on apple crisp and vanilla ice cream.
On Aug. 12, 31 Sputters and one guest (Kitty Szpyrka) played in the August heat. The team, consisting of Pam Elvy, Ann Grover, Carolyn McLean, and Hazel Roper, were in their groove, and all four of them scored in the 30s. Pam Elvy scored a 38, and Ann Grover, along with Linda Watkins, scored a 39 and will be getting their Star for getting a score lower than 40. So, ladies, strive for a 39 or lower so you can get a Star. The following Sputters got a low score of 39: Laura Berkley, Ann Grover, Carol Jones, Linda Lewis, Marilyn Palatas, and Linda Watkins, and Pam Elvy got a 38. Not to be outdone, with a 37 were Hazel Roper and Carolyn McLean. Now, for those who got holes-in-one, Carolyn McLean, Linda Lewis, Hazel Roper, and Linda Watkins each got two. Laura Berkley, Mary Ellen Clark, Jay Dunn, Debbie Flato, Kathie Garman, Lydia O’Connor, Shauna Rand, Karen Simmons, and Sheelagh Simpson were happy to dance around for their hole-in-one.
On Aug. 19, 27 ladies took to the putting green to practice their putting skills for future events that are being planned, with more information to follow. Leading with the lowest score was Hazel Roper with a 36. Laurie Miller and Marilyn Palatas each got a 38, and Laura Berkley and Connie Kotke each got a 39. For the most holes-in-one, Julie Long holds that position with three. Working hard for their holes-in-one, Laura Berkley, Karen Taylor, and Vicki Wermager each got two. Working just as hard and getting one hole-in-one were Helen Bellacqua, Wendy Bellamy, Jay Dunn, Pam Elvy (our most recent new Star recipient), Cathy Johnson who is our newest member (great way to start), Connie Kotke, Vicki MacDonald, Laurie Miller, Marilyn Palatas, Shaun Rand, Hazel Roper, Marsha Roubidoux, Carol Ryan, Lana Steinert, Lisa Woolmington, and Georgianne Zigarowicz.
If you need a loan, see Lisa Woolmington, as she was able to put her hand in the money hole bag and get her winnings.
