Our 2025 Variety Show is inviting all talented SaddleBrooke residents to audition for our new show, A Seventies Shindig, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the DesertView Theater. We are excited to be performing songs, dances, and sketches from the treasure of material from the 1970s decade. There will be chart-topping music from Billboard Hits like “Imagine,” by John Lennon, and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” by Elton John and Kiki Dee; music from the hit movies Star Wars and The Godfather; music we danced to in our living rooms, at school dances, and in clubs, such as ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” and The Bee Gees’ “Night Fever;” and parody sketches from Laugh-In and Saturday Night Live. If you like standup comedy, there is a spot for an original monologue you can write about the 1970s.
Our website www.saddlebrookevarietyshow.org has all the details for auditions, with a list of available production numbers. Whatever your talent, there is something for everyone. Our rehearsals begin in January on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first two months, with extended rehearsals in March for tech and dress rehearsals leading up to performances on Tuesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. and Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
During the first two months of rehearsals, production numbers will be given between a half hour and one hour of concentrated rehearsal time, meeting once or twice in January and two or three times in February in a designated time slot. You do not come to every rehearsal or for the entire three-hour time period. We do not waste anyone’s time, but you are expected to work on your number outside of the rehearsal time to be the most productive in rehearsals. You will be given rehearsal time slots based on availability you give us by listing conflicts ahead of time. Your Fridays through Mondays and Wednesdays are free until March when some rehearsals in the last two weeks will necessitate your being available as we bring the show together with technical support.
Assistant Director Monica Gray is the contact person who schedules audition time slots of 10 minutes. You will find her contact information on our website. Please go to our website for all the details, read the information, select a production number (solo or with others), then contact Monica. Should you have any questions, text Gail Nelli, the artistic director, at 585-314-8452. Include your name, question, and contact information and she will get back to you. You may also include questions on our website.
