SaddleBrooke Tennis Club celebrated an early Valentine’s Day with a tennis social for our members on February 13. In the spirit of attempting something different members were organized into teams of two ladies and two men with a World Team Tennis adapted format. Over 50 of our members at all levels had the chance to meet and play with members of our club that they may not have played with before. Our social coordinators created teams that were equal overall in combined ability. The format included men’s and women’s doubles and a set of mixed doubles before taking on a new team to play. This was a great opportunity to try this format and with a few lessons learned, will help make this event format even better the next time we offer it.
The event was followed by a sumptuous round of heavy appetizers and drinks while we socialized at the Tennis Center Pavilion. A special farewell acknowledgement and cake was given by Sarah Smith to Sue Bixler, a long-standing member who will be moving on to a new journey away from SaddleBrooke.
The club wishes to acknowledge all those who helped make this event successful. Volunteer members behind the scenes developed the format for play, created teams with equal ability that would yield the most fun and set up tables, chairs, microphone, and festive decorations. Other volunteers provided kitchen help, member check-in, and photographic services. Debbie McGeehan spearheaded the event along with her bevy of motivated and skilled volunteers: Mike and Linda Oberski, Melanie Murphy, Carol Eisenbraun, Sarah Smith, Rufus Renfrow, Kent Naugle, Carol Zupanic, Carol and John Sochacki, Joyce and Richard Wantuck, Bea Dillehunt, Tina Huber, T J Duffy and Sandy and Steve Lindquest.
That’s the thing about STC. It is the venue for fun in the outdoors. To join us, just call Connie Kacer, Membership Chair 825-7585 or the STC office 825-0255. It’s that easy.
