Unit Two Events

Thursday, Aug. 20, Unit Two residents flooded the Agave for the third Thursday Happy Hour. We had approximately 25 happy residents having a good time. I know, I saw the pictures. Larry Jones was really happy as he won $37 from the Raffle.
Saturday, July 11, Unit Two enjoyed a Get Out of the Heat Patriotic Potluck with about 34 residents celebrating the USA’s 250th Anniversary at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. There were lots of fresh fruit, salads, meatballs, white chicken chili, barbecued chicken, sliders, spinach squares, and several delicious cookies. We played a game of Guess What in Arizona whereas a place or thing of Arizona was placed on your back and you had to guess it. We had a kaleidoscope picture taking box and several got kaleidoscope photos of themselves. It did pour down the rain but it did not put a damper on our having a good time.
On Aug. 27, 12 lovely Unit Two ladies will lunch together at the It’s Greek to Me restaurant. I recently attended a luncheon there and the food is excellent! So, you know I am looking forward to this dining experience again. I’m thinking maybe next door at the Catalina Craft Pizza may be a target for a luncheon, maybe on a Monday.
The Fish Fry held every Friday at the Vistas/Agave restaurant will be planned for Unit Two residents tentatively for Friday, Sept. 25 (4 to 8 p.m.). RSVPs to Jennifer Willams will be required. If some of you are interested in having a Unit Two table at Prime Rib night (one can order off the menu) or other SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse specials (Wine Night, Chef Specials, etc), please let me know. We are always open to new get together ideas.
And, it’s not too late to begin planning (shopping for a new dress?) to attend the Holiday Party on Dec. 5 along with our neighboring Units 11, 16, 17, and 18. The Wild Bunch will be playing their music and I’m not sure if they will be the Wild Bunch or those on the dance floor!

A Little Lunch, a Lot of Laughter!

What a great start! Our new Social Committee ladies in Unit 5 hosted the first unit get-together in a while—a relaxed lunch at the Preserve on Aug. 12 that brought 11 of us together. It was wonderful to finally put faces to names and meet neighbors that we hadn’t known before. The conversation flowed easily as we shared stories, laughed, and caught up.
Most of our time was spent hearing about past gatherings that have worked well and brainstorming fresh ideas to bring more neighbors together going forward. From casual potlucks, happy hours, and block parties, the ideas kept coming, and we’re lucky that SaddleBrooke has so many venues to make them possible!
Everyone left feeling reconnected and excited about what’s next. A big thank-you to our Social Committee for organizing this and getting the ball rolling again. Stay tuned—more opportunities to gather are on the way!
Flashback to When You Were 7 Years Old and Had Ice Cream Running Down Your Chin

Now fast-forward several decades to July 31, 2026, and you still have ice cream running down your chin! But this time, with temperatures reaching 107 degrees during Unit 8A’s annual Ice Cream Social, you have a pretty good excuse. Besides, it’s perfectly okay to relive your youth!
On their beautiful patio, complete with circulating fans and some welcomed afternoon shade, hosts LaVerne and Paul Kyriss offered bottled water and an assortment of ice cream flavors. Guests arrived with an impressive selection of ice cream toppings, brownies, and cookies to make the evening even sweeter.
Though the outside temperature was impressively hot—even by SaddleBrooke standards—36 brave and eager ice cream lovers ventured out for this special summertime treat. The Social Committee’s decision to serve the ice cream in bowls was definitely a good one. Cones would have been a big challenge in that heat, with melting ice cream dripping everywhere—including down your chin!
Neighbors rekindled conversations from past events, while others reintroduced themselves and enjoyed getting to know one another better.
During the gathering, we also had a surprise celebration for Billy Price’s 94th birthday, complete with a big round of our favorite song: “Happy Birthday to you, Billy!” We look forward to seeing you at many more Ice Cream Socials—but hopefully in much cooler temperatures!
The Unit 8A Social Committee extends a huge thank you to the 36 “cool” souls who braved the (Hot) heat to share in this memorable Ice Cream Social. LaVerne and Paul Kyriss were ready to party, with their backyard beautifully set up for our enthusiastic crowd.
And despite the temperature reaching 107 degrees at 6 p.m., our determined crowd stayed well past 7:30 p.m. Now that is dedication to ice cream, friendship, and a little summertime fun!
Unit 11 Lovely Ladies Luncheon

On July 24, Unit 11 held its semi-annual ladies luncheon at The Preserve. We missed our snow birds but about twenty ladies were in attendance and we even welcomed a couple of newcomers.
After doing introductions around the table our fearless leader decided to spice things up a bit and asked each of us to divulge our first “porn star” names. First “porn star” names were defined as the name of our first pet plus the name of the street we lived on when we had it. Some of the answers were hilarious but the names have been omitted to protect the innocent.
Then to bring our minds back to the present time we played a fun word game. You never know what to expect next with this creative group of ladies.
Lunch was delicious as always and we give our many thanks to the gracious staff at The Preserve.
It was a most enjoyable event with fabulous lunch choices, lively conversations and loads of laughter. A perfect setting because “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”!
Unit 11 Social Event at The Preserve

A lovely August Sunday afternoon presented itself recently to many members of SaddleBrooke One’s Unit 11.
Nearly 40 neighbors gathered on The Preserve’s patio to enjoy stunning views, shared conversation and comfortable mid-summer weather. The social event was enhanced by Happy Hour cocktails and small bites, along with excellent service by the staff.
Living in SaddleBrooke provides many options for human interaction and we in Unit 11 are thankful for yet another wonderful experience.
My many thanks to Ric Nicholson, our Unit 11 Representative, for writing this article and providing the photos since I was out of town for this event.
Unit 21 Ladies Happy Hour Pool Party

Splish, Splash, we were taking a dip and sip to get some relief from the crazy heat. On Aug. 19, the ladies of unit 21 decided to have a happy hour at Silke Benders pool. Everyone brought snacks to share and a beverage. There were so many delicious choices, from amazing dips to homemade sangria for all to enjoy. It’s always nice to get with a great group of ladies and enjoy the afternoon, and this group was no exception. We will have to do this again soon, especially if this heat continues. Don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming events such as Golf Tourney in September and Oktoberfest in October. Be well!
