Unit Happenings – September 2025

Unit Two Pool Party/Roadrunner Happy Hour

BK Koch

On Aug. 18, 17 Unit Two residents gathered at the SaddleBrooke One pool for another “getting to know you” happy hour. It was really an informal group as we discussed our past events of the week. Wendy Hartford and Brad had just returned from a Viking River Cruise and Colorado bike excursion, and Terry McCollum and Kay had also just taken a Viking River Cruise a week before. Several people took advantage of the pool to cool off. Fun time!

There are three events in the near future: BYOB Game Night on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the tennis pavilion; Halloween Costume Party (BYOB) on Friday, Oct. 31, at the tennis pavilion; and Welcome Back Snowbirds Happy Hour at the Agave Lounge on Thursday, Nov. 13.

See ya there!

Unit 3S Enjoys Sunday Sundaes in the Summer!

Melinda Hebbel

SaddleBrooke One Unit 3 dealt with the summer heat by enjoying its first annual Sundaes on Sunday in the Summer event. Friends and neighbors gathered in June and July to enjoy an ice cream sundae buffet and root beer floats, along with good conversation. A thank you goes out to Dick and Peg Achter who again greeted attendees and sold 50/50 tickets, Lynnee Gehring and Laura Berkley for all their scooping, and Scott and Melinda Hebbel for getting rid of your furniture in order to host more than 35 people in an air-conditioned environment!

Another Successful Unit 6 Happy Hour in the Books

“We had so much fun last month that we had to do it again,” said everyone who attended.

So, that’s just what we did! On Aug. 10 approximately 30 people enjoyed camaraderie and delicious libations on the patio of the RoadRunner Grill for a Unit 6 Happy Hour. Lots of new friends were made, and great jokes were told. The 50/50 raffle was split by two lucky winners, and proceeds will go toward future events.

Our big bocce event will be on Oct. 21! Unit 6 is full of fun!

Unit 16 Dines at Cadillac Chaparral Steakhouse

Carolyn McLean

A small but enthusiastic group from Unit 16, while missing our snowbird neighbors, toasted each other with libations, followed by Cadillac Chaparral’s juicy steaks and other treats.

We’re looking forward to seeing our returning neighbors for our annual Dancing in the Street potluck party in early November with our favorite, Wild Ride Band. Our social chair Cari Johnson has a lot more fun planned for us, including a Twilight Putting Challenge, a night out to the Gaslight Music Hall, and our Saucy 16ers’ monthly ladies lunches.

Unit 27 Activities

Sue Case

Our fearless Fira Stout once again arranged for a dynamite (and spicy) Dine Around on July 15 at The Parish restaurant. Due to space considerations, the diners were seated both in the regular dining area and in a smaller adjacent room. That didn’t seem to stop everyone from having fun together and enjoying their meals, which ranged from oysters to pasta to French fries! They had something for everyone, but then, it’s New Orleans-style. Thanks for your extraordinary service to Unit 27, Fira!

The July Snack and Chat was hosted by Marty and Glenn Fisher on July 26. Given the summer date, the size of the crowd was not large; however, everyone enjoyed themselves, as is always the case at Unit 27 get-togethers. Also, given the summer date, the number of outdoor activities was limited at this event; however, there was plenty of room inside for everyone to access the food and have a good time. One of the highlights of this particular event was the opportunity to meet new residents David and Arlene Nichols. Welcome, Arlene and David! Hope you find us a friendly bunch. And to Marty and Glenn, thanks for hosting.

Jane Spande and Dave Fields hosted the August Snack and Chat on Aug. 23. They have made some improvements to their backyard and patio area, including mechanical screens, which blocked the sun and provided the opportunity for attendees to sit outside. Additionally, a mister machine blew a very light mist onto the patio area, completing the positive outdoor dining ambience. Well done! This Snack and Chat featured a very large number of dessert selections, including a decorated cake that Dave had purchased to commemorate Jane’s 57th birthday, which she had celebrated a few days earlier. Most of the attendees couldn’t even remember their 57th birthdays! What a nice occasion to share with friends! Thanks for hosting, Jane and Dave.

Two months ago, the Unit 27 article ended with “Keep cool, and pray for rain!” Sadly, as of the date this article is written, nothing has changed, and the mantra remains.

Unit 46 Divas August Luncheon

Linda Greenough

Thirteen ladies from Unit 46 enjoyed lunch at Ni’s Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar in Tucson on Aug. 19. They enjoyed an unforgettable feast of sushi-inspired flavors, rice, and noodle delicacies. Plus, it was a great opportunity to celebrate Cathie Siglow’s birthday.
