Unit 27 Activities
Sue Case
Current medical science tells us that one of the best ways to maintain good health is to socialize with others. Despite the continued brutal heat, Unit 27 social life manages to go on during the summer. Thanks to the extra effort of the residents themselves, two Snack and Chats and a Dine Around gave unit residents who were in town opportunities to escape their isolation and get together.
Fira Stout organized a Dine Around at White Stallion Ranch on June 13. This is a well-known working dude ranch here in the Tucson area, and it has been family run for more than 55 years. The setting is stunning! Some of the attendees hung out with the horses, while others bellied up to the bar, which has saddles on the bar stools! The dinner was served buffet style, and diners were treated to live entertainment in the form of a lariat-twirling cowboy who ended his performance with a burning lariat—quite the dramatic ending!
Deborah and Dennis Stauffer hosted a Snack and Chat on June 17. Although it was summer and many unit residents got outta town to beat the heat, some of the remaining residents attended and were thankful to the Stauffers for providing the opportunity. Summer desserts must have been on a few attendees’ minds, as the dessert offerings were fabulous!
Linda and Ron Bouchard hosted a Snack and Chat on July 8. The in-town residents who attended not only enjoyed each other’s company but also the large amount of hearty food that each of them brought to the event. No flimsy salads there!
Okay, enough of the heat! But thank you to all who had a hand in providing these events as a welcome respite for those who have endured this hotter-than-normal summer.
Unit 42 Couples Dinner
Tim Gaule
Nine couples from Unit 42 had a very enjoyable evening on July 21 at The Preserve restaurant. Several couples are relatively new to The Preserve and appreciated the opportunity to interact with a few of their neighbors.
More social events are being planned for Unit 42, so be on the lookout for future notices. There are plans for a social gathering on The Preserve patio once the weather cools. Another couple has offered to host a potluck, and we plan to organize another dinner at The Preserve later this year. We hope to have the opportunity to meet and visit with more residents of Unit 42.
Unit 45 Summer Solstice Celebration
Nancy Kadota
The heat of our Arizona summer solstice was met with a very cool, convivial gathering of Unit 45 neighbors, including many new residents of our growing community. Outstanding food and service were provided on The Preserve restaurant patio, and live music from Chuck Moses inspired the crowd to dance, with a mission to have fun! Event spearhead Deb Adinolfi, Committee Chair Kathy Bomwell, and other committee members have plans for future gatherings to maintain this neighborly momentum.
