Unit 21 Bocce Ball League Winners

At the end of April, after seven months of league play, Division 1 winners Dave and Lisa Graff narrowly triumphed over Division 2 winners Jim and Mary Floerke in one last exciting playoff game. The Graffs were awarded first-place prize money as well as a beautiful traveling prize bocce ball set donated by Tammy Beeler (Tammy and her husband Gary were last year’s winners).

The season started in October with 20 teams and ended in April with playoffs between the two divisions, awards, and a brats and beer picnic at the home of Midge and Al Mollenkopf. This marks the eighth year of neighborhood competition! What a great way to meet our new neighbors!

Unit Representative Jeff Depka used his mighty powers of persuasion, and Steve Sanchez agreed to host the July Snack and Chat. In fact, he appeared calm, cool, and collected as quite a few Unit residents came through the door.

Steve has made some significant upgrades to the house and yard since his move here in the early days of the pandemic. One upgrade that came in handy for the Snack and Chat was screening the patio and adding fans. The evening was humid when people arrived; however, several attendees opted to sit outside. Unfortunately, it rained during the event, and those who were outdoors had to go inside. But those smug individuals who had chosen to sit in the screened-in patio were having the last laugh. Despite the rain, everyone seemed to be enjoying the evening.

These monthly get-togethers have been a good opportunity for residents to talk to neighbors they haven’t seen for a while or, as in the case of new residents Deb and Dennis Stauffer, to say hi for the first time. The Stauffers, who moved to SaddleBrooke from Alaska, purchased the home of friends Susie and Gary Arnold who moved back to Alaska. We welcome Deb and Dennis and we thank Steve Sanchez for his hospitality and in providing the opportunity for introductions.

Phil Doyle has let us all know that he is back and ready to begin a new year of the Unit 27 golf Mixer/Scramble that was so popular last year. The kick-off event will be Thursday, Oct. 13. It is sure to be fun for all who participate.

Unit 27 events have been scheduled for the upcoming holiday, including the Ladies Luncheon at Vivace on Friday, Dec. 2; the Depka Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 3; and the Unit 27 holiday party at the MountainView clubhouse on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Save the dates.

Take care and be well!
