Unit 5
Fran Berman
Neither monsoon nor sizzling temperatures keep Unit 5 ladies from socializing in the summer. In July Fran Berman hosted the ladies’ potluck coffee with 16 attending. We’ve had a big turnover in Unit 5 residents lately and this gave us a chance to meet and greet our newest neighbors.
Then in August, eight of us went up the road a piece to have lunch at the Oracle Patio Cafe. Previously an antique shop, this charming cafe is cozy enough for small gatherings and roomy enough for bigger ones.
Unit 5 ladies hold coffees in residents’ homes in the odd numbered months and lunches in local restaurants in the even numbered months. There’s also an all-resident event held at least every quarter such as potlucks, bocce ball matches, golf cart scavenger hunts and game nights.
Unit 15
Suzanne Kirby
On Sunday, August 9 forty-eight neighbors from Unit 15 enjoyed a Happy Hour at The Preserve Grill. Everyone started the afternoon on the patio and later relocated inside due to the thunder and lightning over the Catalina Mountains. Residents enjoyed food, drink and great conversation with old friends and meeting new neighbors in the Unit.
Upcoming events for the fall include an Oktoberfest on October 11 at the Tennis Pavilion and a lively Bocce Competition and Brunch on October 24. Additional events include an evening out at the Great American Playhouse in Oro Valley to enjoy their holiday show Planes, Trains and Sleigh Bells on November 20 and our annual Unit Holiday Party on December 9. Make sure to mark your calendar. For additional details on these upcoming Unit events, contact Suzanne Kirby at 818-0695 or email [email protected].
Unit 49
Lan Bedard
Held at the HOA 1 Activity Room on August 9, Unit 49’s ice cream social continues to be a popular summer event to beat the heat and splurge on calories. In addition to all-you-can-eat vanilla and chocolate ice cream served by Ken Wong and Ken Heaton, we were treated to a whole table of ice cream add-ons such as strawberries, blueberries, chopped nuts, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup and whipped cream. For extra fun, the Social Committee threw in a free raffle. Winning tickets were drawn later for a variety of prizes including a picture frame, a scarf, a hat and a wine bag. It was a hilarious and refreshing party with lots of laughs!
