Unit 27
Sue Case
It has been a relatively quiet summer in Unit 27 with record heat and moderately high rainfall. Many residents have taken the opportunity to travel and some new folks have taken up residence. Eileen and Jeff Depka have moved in next door to Eileen and Len Raab. Eileen is currently in residence and both she and Jeff attended the most recent Snack and Chat. Jeff will join her eventually and they will be permanent residents. Rob and Julie Smith moved into the former home of Marci and Bill Strang. They are also permanent residents and they also attended the August Snack and Chat. Although not new to Unit 27, Jane and Greg Zielske will soon become permanent residents also.
Pam and Don Barsness hosted the unit Snack and Chat on June 11. Over 20 residents attended—a fairly good turnout for what is traditionally the hottest month in the year. As Ron Talbot, our usual photographer, did not attend Unit Rep Larry Zanatta photographed the event.
Cher Zazzarino and Tom Arnold hosted a very patriotic Snack and Chat on the Fourth of July. Although, understandably, the attendance was not high (slightly fewer than 20), Cher more than made up for that with her holiday decorations. Additionally some of the attendees wore red, white and blue. All in all it was quite a festive occasion photographed by Nelson Rodriguez. After the event many of the attendees relocated to more strategic viewing spots to watch the SaddleBrooke fireworks.
The large attendance at the August 20 Snack and Chat took hosts Fran and Fred Lowy (and everyone else) by surprise, as over 40 residents were there. One attendee said the crowd inside the house was so loud that she had to escape to the patio! Luckily the slightly lower temperature accommodated that relocation.
Time to get ready for autumn as the snowbirds slowly return to the unit and the pace of activity quickens.
Unit 5
Fran Berman
July found Unit 5 inaugurating its monthly game night. On the third Wednesday evening each month you can find us in the Coyote Room playing a variety of games—card games, board games, creative games. We bring our favorite games and together we decide who’s playing what. Favorites include Sequence, Pictionary and That’s It.
The last of us left the clubhouse after 9:00 p.m. After us, Patrol locked up. Pictured left to right are die-hard gamers John Vaughan, Elizabeth Vaughan, Stephanie Mattie, Jim Mattie, Fran Berman and Joe Vidmar.
Even in the heat of the summer, Unit 5 finds ways to have fun while staying cool.
