Traditions are defined as “… a story, belief, custom, etc., handed down from generation to generation.” A tradition may feel like a soft, cozy, familiar blanket worn with age or the Thanksgiving stuffing recipe passed down through families.

Our home carries traditions that are introduced to us by our families and also by our friends. These customs become woven into the patchwork that identifies us—our family, our organizations, our community, and our towns. Tucson presents to all of us these traditions of its centuries-old history. The ladies of WOOO (Women On Our Own) are always eager to experience these customs of our home, the Ol’ Pueblo.

Marking the 100th Anniversary of La Fiesta De Los Vaqueros, also known as the Tucson Rodeo, is a celebration of the Cowboy. The stories of the Old West are the spoken and written folklore of the Desert Southwest, and it is this celebration of the rodeo tradition that is honored. The ladies of WOOO were excited to be part of this 100th Anniversary!

The seven events of the rodeo (bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing, and bull riding) kicked off on Feb. 20 with a completely non-motorized parade through downtown Tucson.

The Tucson weather did not disappoint the thousands of attendees throughout the week, with continuous sunshine and warm weather.
