They say that good things happen to those who wait, and that was proven once again on Dec. 4, 2023, when Tom Quinn recorded his very first hole-in-one at The Preserve Golf Course. Although he has witnessed three or four aces by various playing partners, it was quite a different experience to see his own shot go in the hole. This was no lucky bounce-off-a-sprinkler-head shot, but a perfect, high, Tiger-esque ball that landed just past the hole. Three or four inches of backspin (or the sudden rotation of the earth) was all it took to make the ball disappear. “I couldn’t believe it went in,” said Quinn after launching his nine iron from 105 yards away. His playing partners Bob Ogle and Don Paplinger were ecstatic as well, especially after hearing that Tom would be treating the partners and their wives to drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
The 20-year wait for this achievement is now over for the 82-year-old. Rumors of Tom adding a new wing to his home to house his Callaway Chrome Soft ball and all future hole-in-one balls are highly exaggerated.
