Their Hearts Were Dancing

Judy Saks

You have no doubt heard the term “better late than never.” That was certainly the case when the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club held their Valentine-themed dinner dance on Feb. 16. The evening began with a delicious Italian buffet featuring fettuccine alfredo with chicken and asparagus, stuffed shells, and garlic bread. For dessert, a special treat, was a lovely Godiva dark chocolate, heart-shaped candy. Before and during the buffet dinner, dancers stepped up to have their pictures taken in the “Sweetheart Snaps” photo booth. There was lots of love and happiness in the air as couples smiled sweetly for the camera.

Finally, it was time to get down to the main event of the evening … dancing! We were indeed fortunate to have an outstanding guest DJ for the night, Chuck Moses. This is an encore performance for Chuck who crooned some tunes (he is a great singer) and let others play. In keeping with the Valentine’s theme, Chuck’s wife Linda accompanied him to the dance, and this lovely couple also had their picture taken in the photo booth.

Love can be happy or sad, as we all know, so we danced to songs that showed both sides of the emotion: rumba to the happy songs “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and “Strangers in the Night,” foxtrot to “Beyond the Sea” and “You Make Me Feel So Young,” and “Crazy Little Thing” by Queen for a fast-moving east coast swing. On the flipside, we waltzed to the plaintive “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and another rumba to “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic. But the best dance for Valentine’s Day? Of course, it was the appropriately named line dance “Cupid Shuffle.”

The club’s sponsor for the month of February was Nest in the Desert, a wonderful home décor shop. We were delighted to have the owners, Robyn and Scott, join us for the party and tell our members a little bit about their business. They even got up to do a few turns around the floor as well. Thanks again to them for their sponsorship and for being a part of the festivities.
