As a child, autumn was always a time of mixed emotions for me—the end of the lazy, hazy days of summer and the promise and excitement of a new school year ahead. It was a chance to reunite with old friends and an opportunity to meet new ones. And, oh, the joy of shopping for new school clothes and organizing all of your new school supplies!
Many of those same emotions resurface in me and other members of the SaddleBrooke Paper Crafters Club (SBPC) during the fall. We look forward to welcoming back all of our snowbird friends who return to Arizona and to our monthly SBPC meetings, Fun Shops, and other club activities. Our September and October meetings buzz with the joy of reuniting with our friends and sharing new techniques, skills, experiences, and supplies that we found over the summer.
September also brings the opportunity to visit the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo event in Mesa. It’s a convention-like event where paper crafters from all over Arizona get to see many of the newest supplies, stamps, and papers that we use in our hobby. Many of our SBPC members carpool to attend this annual event. We look forward to shopping, participating in the “make and takes,” and maybe even meeting some of the card making gurus who we watch online. I remember the excitement of meeting Gina K, one of the big names in card making, at the convention a few years ago.
Yes, September/October may be the end of summer, but it also brings the promise of a new year of fun, creativity, and friendships shared by folks who enjoy this wonderful hobby!
If you would like to learn more about our club, please feel free to attend one of our monthly meetings. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. in the SaddleBrooke One Craft Center.
