It was Dec. 9 when eight members of the Questers Catalina Timewalkers met at Monique Salviejo’s home for their regular monthly business meeting and program for the day, “Holiday Ornaments.”
Following a quick business discussion, there was a fun-filled showing and telling of the unique stories of holiday ornaments and items dear to their hearts that members had brought with them to share. These included an amazing miniature antique brass menorah from Israel, a gift from a close friend. Several delightful antique Christmas tree ornaments were among the items shown, which included lovely crocheted snowflakes and Christmas trees, possibly Irish, which were handed down from a grandmother; impressive Russian glass figurines collected over the years; numerous awesome cross-stitch made with love over the years by Monique; an enchanting silk miniature vintage 49-star American flag with a Christmas message on a card: “It was made when Alaska became a state in January 1959;” a Christmas gift from a friend; a beautiful white and green China orb, a memory of a business medical workshop at a ski resort; and a charming miniature animated living room with parents and child with a small dog. A wondrous antique Swedish wooden Christmas tree with candles was shown by Nancy Hysong who recited an adaptation of the poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” with our chapter, the Catalina Timewalkers, being the focus.
Later, everyone enjoyed a superb brunch. Monique thanked her co-host Lynne Donovan for making delicious mushroom and ham strata and members for providing various tempting desserts. The tables were decorated magnificently with Christmas-themed table settings. It was truly a joy to sit among the stunning Christmas trees and beautifully decorated home of Monique. It was a wonderful beginning to the festive season.
