On March 25, forty seven members and guests of the Spanish Culture Club were treated to a fabulous gourmet Tex Mex meal prepared by Lilia and Victor Sosa. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, the Sosas came to SaddleBrooke by way of San Jose, California. Having lived in multicultural communities for many years, the Sosas developed a love for preparing and eating Tex Mex food. The menu for our March meeting included beef flautas, pinto beans, Spanish rice, guacamole and salsa. In addition Bob and Gail Blizard prepared a wonderful ceviche. Ceviche is a favorite Central and South American food made from fresh fish cured in citrus juices and spiced with aji or chili peppers. To complete the menu, salad and tres leches cake were served. Muchas gracias to the chefs!

As we look ahead to April we have two exciting events planned. First, the Spanish Culture Club will be joining the Francophile Club for their spring fling event on April 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the HOA1 Bocce Ball Court. We will participate in a friendly bocce ball competition followed by a potluck dinner at the Tennis Center Pavilion.

On April 22 join us to learn more about Mexico and Guatemala. Our presenter will be Stevie Mack, a teacher, author and publisher. Stevie is part owner of Crizmac, a publishing and retail business in Tucson supplying cultural materials and ethnic goods to teachers and schools, as well as to the general public. In addition, she leads cultural and art tours to Mexico and Guatemala.

Of course, we must celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 5. We join the wonderful party at the Vistas Dining Room for traditional Mariachi music and a great Mexican buffet.

As you can see, we are a very active club. You do not need to speak Spanish to belong to our club. However, on the second Monday of the month members may meet at the Roadrunner Grill for a Spanish speaking breakfast. This is an opportunity for those who would like to practice their Spanish to get together.
