Tennis Club Social—Labor Day 2022

Anne Williams

Honoring Labor Day 2022 was more fun than work for the tennis players, POP Tennis players, club members, and guests on Monday, Sept. 5. The weather cooperated for the most part (a few gusts of wind did not slow anyone down, even if it did affect the service toss and the location of some hits on the courts).

Forty tennis players and 24 POP Tennis players enjoyed competitive but friendly social play from 9 to 11 a.m. using all courts at SaddleBrooke One, MountainView, DesertView, and The Preserve (court 22). The players contributed their talents and their grace. The SaddleBrooke Tennis Club (STC) provided the game balls.

Temporary problems with the grill at the STC facility did not deter the grillers (John Sochacki, Greg Poling, and Chris Madsen) who took the meat to the Poling’s residence and returned with delicious results.

Immediately following the court activities, the event work team (Tracy Reingruber, Linda Foy, Clare Collins, Carol Sochacki, Diane Poling, Cindy Madsen, Anne Williams, Mary Zimmerman, Sarah Smith, Richard and Joyce Wantuck) kicked back into gear, organizing the beautiful and delicious food contributions into a well-organized and efficient buffet.

STC provided burgers/dogs, condiments, and tea/lemonade. Participants provided awesome salads, side dishes, and incredibly tempting desserts.

Event MC Debbie McGeehan did her usual magic in providing the participants with club activities while she effectively managed the “maddening crowd” through the food line. Debbie also contributed the “fixins” for root beer floats, a popular ending to the day for all!

Safe to say that no one went home hungry. Everyone went home with pride in their court participation, winning (or not).

This Labor Day social was one of several coordinated and supported by the STC throughout the year. These events are an excellent way to meet new people, to get to know friends off the court, and to share fun, safe play. Together with organized play, drills, private lessons, and personally reserved court times, these socials complete the picture of tennis and POP Tennis at SaddleBrooke! Residents not currently involved with the STC should consider it for future participation! Information on club membership can be found at app.courtreserve.com/portal/sbtennis or by dropping into the club office located at the SaddleBrooke One Tennis Center. Thanks also to TJ Duffy for taking many photos during the day!
