Although this past fall’s Ron Johnson Meet offered some weather, traffic, and parking issues, SaddleBrooke swimmers enjoyed many moments of camaraderie along with some excellent swim times!

Saturday presented some special and unique swim challenges, including rain and wind, along with a well-attended ASU football game taking place just next door to the pool! This not only created parking and traffic challenges but, on a positive note, resulted in swimmers enjoying occasional fireworks being set off in the stadium to celebrate various ASU football achievements.

Swimming highlights included five SaddleBrooke swimmers taking home prizes for earning the High Point award in their age groups. These amazing athletes are as follows:

Men 60-64: Rome Yount

Women 75-79: Lyn Moreno

Men 75-79: Bill Ton

Women 80-84: Corinna Goodman

Men: 90-94: Arlyn Melcher (in his very first swim meet!)

Other noteworthy swims were made by new Swim Club member Bill Zimsky, who swam the grueling 3,000-yard event, and Joannie Eastridge, who completed the 6,000-yard swim! SaddleBrooke swimmer Craig Shaffer should also be commended for swimming 100 yards in a relay and then completing the 200 butterfly with almost zero rest in between.

These swimmers, along with everyone else who participated, resulted in the Swim Club earning a first-place finish in the Medium Team Division. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the meet, along with friends and family who supported each swimmer!
