It’s summer now, and we all know what that means— hot! It’s the perfect time to learn Tai Chi in the cool comfort of the SaddleBrooke One Fitness Center. Why not give Tai Chi a try? Each class is $10.
Beginning class: Tuesday 9:05–10:05 a.m.
Advanced class: Saturdays 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Intermediate class: Saturdays 12:30–1:30 p.m.
If you have experience with Tai Chi practice, you might want to consider coming to the intermediate class. There are different styles of Tai Chi, but they all have the same fundamental principles of relaxation, weight shifting, waist twisting and mental focus so it will be pretty easy for you to pick up the Yang style form that we teach.
If you’ve never done Tai Chi before, the beginning class is perfect. Beginners work on fundamentals and a short 17 move section of the longer 108 move form. This makes it easier to learn and remember the moves.
The advanced class students need to know the entire 108 move Tai Chi form, then they build on that by learning two other “sister arts” (that are very cool, by the way).
Tai Chi is excellent for building lower body strength and overall balance. It is also a great way to slow down the entire mind/body complex and initiate the “relaxation response.” Many people are suffering from stress, which can lead to a multitude of health issues. Tai Chi is a wonderful, soothing and restorative meditative practice.
Your instructors, Ken and Carol Emerson, have been students of martial arts for over thirty years. Both are black belts, certified by the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association— an international organization dedicated to the practice of Kung Fu for health and peace of mind. P.S. In memory of our beloved Izzy-Cat, each year we donate a portion of the income from these classes to charities that benefit cats. If you have a favorite cat charity, please let us know.
