Cinco de Mayo at STC is party time. True, it must compete with the Battle of Puebla at the Mexican Fort Lorento for universal attention. Still, SaddleBrooke came alive again this May 5 when Joanie Dragon exercised her artistic talent to bring the STC patio to colorful life for the party.
Traditional Mexican patterns decorated the tables, walls, entry and serving area with a dominant red and green motif. Joanie herself was dressed like a Latin princess awaiting Antonio Banderas. Debbie McGeehan was all over the place performing her well-known behind-the-scenes magic while the crowd tipped their glasses in a toast to those who worked so hard to make the party another great success. STC is, once again, the social venue most loved in the SaddleBrooke community.
More than 75 dedicated players competed in the pre-party tournament and then rushed to the patio to have their well-deserved margaritas along with the cheerful crowd of 150 or so. For a time the margarita bar was the most active spot in SaddleBrooke. Delicious salsas and guacamole were in abundance along with tostadas and good ‘ol Fritos. The champions of the event were those special members who developed the recipe for the plentiful, robust margaritas. They could have knocked your socks off. And some did.
After all that the real party began. Eight STC members volunteered to provide crock pots and slow cookers full of delicious Boston butt, beef and chicken delights that our volunteer crew served with garnish of veggies, more guac, cheese, taco makings and sour cream. Many hours of the most savory imagination went into the fare that was fit for those who love to keep fit in retirement while relishing the friendship of healthy fun lovers.
Usually we do not list the names of the dozens of volunteers who make our parties possible. There are too many and print space is too limited. There were over 30 this time. Virtually everyone joins in to move dining tables to the patio, decorate them, set up chairs, assemble the bar, mix the drinks, place the food in convenient areas and lastly put everything back in order after the party. We don’t always name them. But we love them. Thanks to every single volunteer who serves so graciously to make STC such an enjoyable club.
Adios until the next Cinco de Mayo party and we’ll see you at our June 20 ice cream social event celebrating the beginning of summer. We’ll be on the STC patio where we experience a sincere dedication to the health and enjoyment of SaddleBrooke residents. Come join us.
