South American Trip

Joan Elder

I recently visited Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Iguazu Falls. The trip started in Santiago, Chile. Upon arrival, we checked into our hotel and walked around the local area. The following day we had a guided tour to visit the highlights of this lovely city. The next day we took a bus tour to Valparaiso, a port city about an hour away from Santiago. After our three days there, we flew to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Again, our first day was a walking tour in the area around our hotel followed by a guided city tour on the second day. The third day was undoubtedly the highlight of our two-week trip—all-day sightseeing at Iguazu Falls. The first observation point was in Argentina at the top of the falls. But after lunch, we drove to the Brazilian site to see the bottom of these amazing falls. Our last stop was Buenos Aires, Argentina. After the city tour, we enjoyed a steak dinner and tango show. That steak was surely the best beef dinner we had in all the time we spent in these three countries.

Since I have already visited Machu Picchu and the Galapagos years ago, I have really seen most of what was on my “bucket list” for South America. The only country I have not yet seen and hope to visit is Japan, but that has to be in spring to see the cherry blossoms!
