On Oct. 28, 42 ghouls, goblins, witches, and their costumed companions belonging to the SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club (SBLDC) alighted upon the SaddleBrooke One Vistas restaurant and Vermillion Room to celebrate Halloween. And celebrate they did, with an hour and a half of spirited line dancing followed by a delicious, healthy luncheon.
Members of SBLDC devoted some time and creative thought toward the development of their costumes. Milling about the ballroom were frightening witches, walking skeletons, and a sexy prison guard. Less concerning, but no less inventive, were the likes of Detective Nancy Drew, a flower child, a cheerleader from the class of ‘54, a toga-clad Greek citizen, a pink lady, a granny with style and flamingo slippers, at least one cowgirl, and a convincing Snow White surrounded by her seven dwarves. When the dancers cast their votes for most original getup, the first-place prize went to Snow White and her dwarves. Second place went to scary witch Dolores Riccardone, and third-place winners were pink lady Jane Sims and skeleton Teresa Paesler.
As is always the case, the Music and Dance Committees demonstrated their creativity and talent by concocting a fun and danceable line-up of Halloween-themed music paired with each dance. Musical hits that evoked chuckles and dancing from the crowd included “Devil Woman,” “Purple People Eater,” “Monster Mash,” “Somebody’s Watching Me,” “Spooky,” “Creepin’ Up on You,” and many, many more. Judging by the reactions of the dancers who flooded the dance floor for almost every number, the Music and Dance Committees are winners, too.
After completing 27 numbers, hungry dancers lined up to a buffet of crisp green salad with tempting toppings such as hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits, blue cheese, and grilled chicken and warm, crusty rolls. Dessert was a decadent double-layer chocolate cake with a cherry-filled center. Warm thanks and congratulations go to the Social Committee who pulled together the fabulous menu, provided publicity for the event, and arrived early and left late to decorate and organize everything so that members could enjoy themselves and give no thought to the details.
To quote Dopey from Snow White’s entourage, “Dancing is good for body, mind, and soul!” So, if you would like to see the video of this or other SBLDC celebrations, or to learn more about the club, please visit our website saddlebrookelinedance.club.
