September Music Matinee featuring the Barber Shop Chorus
Sept. 15, 2 p.m. DesertView Performing Arts Center
The SaddleBrooke Barbershop Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and a sanctioned club in SaddleBrooke. Starting in 1998, their mission is to sing barbershop music the best they can, to have fun doing so, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow singers. They sing in retirement and assisted living facilities, for other local groups and private events, PLUS performing a Christmas concert yearly.
The SaddleBrooke Barbershop Chorus is currently a small group but has members with a wide range of barbershop experience, from two years to more than 65 years. Most members have performed barbershop music for over five years.
The program will include several barbershop standards, a few jokes, and special barbershop arrangements of music from the 1920’s through the 1960’s. The performance will be Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. DesertView Performing Arts Center. If transportation is an issue, call Dispatch at 520-314-1042.
This is a free show open to all residents of SaddleBrooke.
Friday Fun Game Day
Sept. 25, 1 to 3 p.m. Senior Village Office, 16460 N. Oracle Road. Free
Looking for a fun and friendly way to spend a Friday afternoon? RSVP to attend our monthly social event, Friday Fun Game Day. This free activity is all about enjoying great company and having a fun time together playing a variety of board and card games. We’d love to see you! This event takes place on the fourth Friday of each month. RSVP: Events@seniorvillage.org.
Senior Village Honors Veterans with an Open House
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m.until 2 p.m. The Open House will be held at the Senior Village Office, 16460 N Oracle Road.
Veterans Day is a special time to honor all Veterans who served in the military. Nov. 11 marks the end of World War I and reminds us of the service provided by so many to keep Americans free. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome. Transportation is available for Senior Village members.

Senior Village Helps When You Need It

After Jaci Nissen’s husband passed away in early 2019, feeling overwhelmed with the basic home repairs and maintenance she was now facing alone, she made her first call to Senior Village requesting assistance.
“Carolyn Davis, who continues to be a Membership Intake Volunteer today, came to my home and handled my signing up in such a professional and kindly manner,” Jaci says. “After she left, I had a wonderful feeling of relief that someone was there for me.”
That visit was followed by one from Bob Alvarez, a volunteer with the Helping Hands team who came to her rescue using his skills to tackle the home projects that had challenged her. As they talked, he suggested that she might consider volunteering for Senior Village.
“A few months later as I struggled with what to do with all of my extra time in a worthy way, I remembered Bob’s sage advice,” says Jaci. “After seeing firsthand what a positive difference the organization could make in a member’s life, I volunteered with the Membership Intake team.”
She enjoys meeting with prospective new members and helping them enroll in Senior Village. Quickly becoming a co-lead of her team, she continues in that role today, along with Dianne Monza. “We are the first contact new members meet and it’s so rewarding,” Nissen says.
After a prospective member calls Senior Village, the co-lead finds a volunteer (there are currently 25 on the team) to meet with them for about an hour to explain the services Senior Village offers and to complete the necessary paperwork. The information is entered into the database, and the forms and payment are delivered to Jaci who reviews it and takes it to the Senior Village office.
“While it’s always better if people plan ahead to avoid a crisis, sometimes residents need our services immediately,” Jaci explains. “In those instances, we do our best to expedite the process so new members can receive the support they need as quickly as possible.”
Offering a variety of services from driving people to medical appointments, grocery shopping and errands, helping with home technology, forms and documents, doing basic home repairs and maintenance, installing lockboxes and even offering support to members who need to make critical decisions about their living arrangements.
“I’ve enjoyed the many prospective new members I have met over the past six years as I’ve been able to assist them in their time of need just as my needs were met in 2019,” Jaci says. “I just can’t say enough good things about Senior Village and how fortunate I am to be a part of this special organization and team.”

Save the Date: “Rock the Village” Concert to Benefit Senior Village

Mark your calendars! Senior Village at SaddleBrooke is bringing one of the community’s favorite bands to the stage for what promises to be one of the season’s most popular events.
Rock the Village will feature the CS&M Trio, performing the timeless folk and rock hits of the 1960s and 1970s. The concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the DesertView Theater on Clubhouse Drive.
Tickets are just $35 per person and will go on sale Oct. 1 at the SaddleBrooke TWO Administrative Offices. With the popularity of both the venue and the band, attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets early.
The CS&M Trio has become a favorite throughout the area, entertaining audiences at Catalina Craft Pizza and at numerous private events in SaddleBrooke and SaddleBrooke Ranch. Their energetic performances and familiar classics are sure to have the audience singing along.

Proceeds from Rock the Village will support the programs and services of Senior Village, helping SaddleBrooke residents remain independent, connected, and safely living in their own homes. At the suggestion of Barry Swartzberg, the event’s co-organizer, a portion of the proceeds will also benefit Girls Golf of Tucson.

When “Someday” Becomes Today

For many SaddleBrooke residents, moving to an independent or assisted living community is something they plan to think about “someday.” Often, that decision is postponed until a health issue, a fall, or another life change makes it unavoidable.
But waiting for a crisis isn’t the only option.
Many older adults are choosing to explore their options while they are still healthy, active, and able to make decisions on their own terms. Planning ahead allows time to compare communities, consider what matters most, and make a thoughtful decision rather than a rushed one. Even if a move is years away, having a plan can provide confidence and peace of mind.
Senior Village at SaddleBrooke’s Moving On Team is here to help members navigate these conversations. Trained volunteers provide information, resources, and practical guidance without pressure or expectations. The process begins with a checklist to help you assess whether you’re ready to make a transition now or simply begin preparing for one in the future.
Whether you’re ready to make a move or simply beginning to think about what comes next, you don’t have to navigate the process alone. Sometimes the best time to plan for tomorrow is today.

Community Resources Worth Knowing About

Senior Village is often asked for recommendations regarding service providers and community resources. Because we are committed to remaining neutral and avoiding even the appearance of endorsing commercial entities, Senior Village does not provide referrals or recommendations. However, we do pay attention to programs and organizations that may be of value to residents of our community. In that spirit, we would like to make readers aware of several resources that may be helpful.
One such resource is the EMS Membership Program offered by the Golder Ranch Fire District and approved by the Arizona Department of Health Services. For a modest annual household fee, the program provides ambulance transportation coverage for members of the household. Even with insurance a ride in an ambulance can be expensive. But not if you are enrolled in the EMS Membership Program. The annual fee for a household (not for each person) is under $120. Residents can learn more, enroll, renew, or pay the annual fee online at grfdaz.gov.
Another service available to SaddleBrooke residents is Dispatch Health, which has partnered with TMC Health to provide same-day medical care in the home. There is no enrollment fee, and insurance is processed much like a traditional office visit. When requested, trained medical professionals will come directly to your home to provide care, including certain lab work and X-rays. This service may be especially beneficial for individuals who are ill, mobility-limited, or prefer to avoid a trip to an urgent care facility or emergency room. Finally, Central Arizona Aging is a nonprofit organization serving seniors in Pinal and Gila Counties, including SaddleBrooke. Their programs and services address a variety of needs that fall outside the mission and scope of Senior Village. Visit caaging.org to learn more about the services they provide.
