You can help Rachel Henson attend the college of her dreams! Rachel is a senior at Basis Oro Valley, a public charter school. When she graduates this May she hopes to attend Whitworth University (a small Christian college in Spokane, Washington). However, with two younger brothers who will soon also wish to attend college her family’s financial picture may prohibit the realization of her dream.
I have known Rachel for three years since the SaddleBrooke Writers’ Group began working with the Creative Writing classes of Heather Nagami at Basis. During this time Rachel has read her original writings at two Coffee Houses hosted by the Writers’ Group. She is currently working on her senior project – writing an original novel. At the March Coffee House Rachel read an excerpt from this novel which was well received by the close to 100 people attending. I am proud to be her advisor in this amazing project which has allowed me to get to know Rachel as a bright, warm, friendly, dedicated student who has maintained a 3.8 average at Basis. Because of her academic achievement, Rachel was inducted into the National Honor Society. She also founded the Creative Writing Club, the Spanish Club, the school newspaper and is the editor of Literati, the Basis Journal. In January she was chairperson of the Basis Dance held in our MountainView Clubhouse. Rachel plans to major in English/Creative Writing with a goal of someday being an editor in the field of publishing.
I have a goal, too. I would like to raise $1000 (or more) for Rachel. As a former math teacher, I know that if just 100 SaddleBrooke residents contribute $10 each we can reach that goal! Of course more people donating, or larger donations, could make her scholarship even greater.
Your tax deductible donation can be sent directly to the 529 account opened for Rachel. Although graduation is May 22 and it would be great to receive donations by then, you can send your check anytime as this fund will remain open. You can even send additional donations in the future for Rachel’s next three years in college! Checks should be made out to American Funds (with Scholarship for Rachel written in the For line) and mailed to Professional Wealth Strategies, 3573 E. Sunrise Drive, Suite 119, Tucson, Arizona 85718. (They can also be left in the basket at my door, 38190 Elbow Bend, until May 23.)
Every small donation added to the Scholarship for Rachel fund will help this delightful young lady achieve her goal and attend the college of her dreams. Rachel and I thank you for your generosity in advance!
