SBWGA Players Go to Phoenix for State Championship

Ret Convey

Ten ladies from the SaddleBrooke Women’s Golf Association (SBWGA) had a great time participating in the Arizona State Senior Women’s Championship in beautiful Rio Verde. The magnificent golf club, Tonto Verde, welcomed not only the SaddleBrooke players, but also players from all around Arizona.

The three-day tournament, held on Sept. 9, 10, and 11, was enjoyable in part because Phoenix temperatures took a slight dip, and a mild breeze kept things very comfortable. Of course, the other enjoyable parts of the tournament were the impeccable playing conditions and a few days’ getaway with each other.

The SaddleBrooke ladies who enjoyed a great time together in Tonto Verde were Patty Mawe, Kay McCollom, Eila Sallaberry, Donna Sehn, Barb Verbus, Jan Bukus, Bonnie Westra, Ret Convey, Joan Chyall, and Cathe Kropp.

Congratulations go to Joan Chayll for winning first place gross and to Ret Convey for her net first place win.

Cathe and Joan can’t get enough of a great time together, it seems, and will be leaving in October for Boynton Beach, Fla., where they will represent the LPGA Amateurs Western Region for the National Championship. Congratulations to Cathe and Joan! We wish you the best of luck in Boynton Beach!

We’d like to acknowledge our major sponsors, Lexus of Tucson and Coyote Golf Cars, for their continued support of the SBWGA. Thanks to them, we are able to enjoy tournaments and events all year long, and we appreciate their generosity.
