SBWGA-18: The Drive to Compete Has Begun

Ruth Irving, Presidents Cup Champion

Ellen Avenoso

While most of our golf falls under the heading “fun in the sun,” we all do enjoy some good head-to-head competition. Our first major tournament of the year, the Presidents Cup (coincidentally falling around the Presidents Day holiday), spanned most of the month of February, with four brackets of eight players each. This Net Score, Match Play, single-elimination format began on Feb. 10 and, with two rain days, concluded with the final round on Feb. 24.

Congratulations to Ruth Irving, our Champion, who narrowly eked out a win on the 18th hole against Ellen Avenoso in front of an audience of cheering onlookers. Third and fourth place winners were Takeyo Eakin and Marie Kahng. Through the generosity of our sponsors, prize money was awarded at the end of rounds 2 and 3 to players who had advanced to that round. Sponsors included A1 Golf Carts, SaddleBrooke Remodeling, Andy’s Irrigation, Beauty Inside and Out, and The Golden Touch. Thank you to all! At our March luncheon, there will be a sponsor fair so that we can all acquaint ourselves with the services offered by these loyal enterprises.
