Time sweeps past, sending another year our way with seemingly advancing speed. Yet, SaddleBrooke Women’s Golf Association-18 (SBWGA-18) keeps swinging, on and off the course.

Starting out November in high style was Bonnie Westra, who aced SaddleBrooke number 2. Hitting her ball with a number eight hybrid, she watched as that little orb sailed 81 yards over the water and into the hole. Congratulations, Bonnie, on your hole-in-one on Nov. 2!

Kachina Dolls inaugurated their 2021-22 season with a tournament at Sewailo Golf Club. Barbara Turriff and Kay Cruise were part of the foursome placing third. Congratulations!

ACE Day on Nov. 9 came with a holiday surprise. Our matches began in the afternoon to accommodate the Niners’ special tournament. Although moderate temperatures in the 80s prevailed, November’s earlier sunsets cast rays on the Santa Catalina Mountains, turning them glorious shades of pink, well before all of our foursomes finished. As the local saying goes, “When the mountains turn pink, it’s time to drink.”

Greenie prizes, chosen by a draw from all whose balls remained on the green on SaddleBrooke number 6, went to Barb Verbus, Debbie Green, and Ann Chatham. Congratulations to all the winners on Nov. 9!

Dancing into our league’s record books was our 2021 version of the Solheim Cup, played on Nov. 16 and Nov. 18, between teams named the Surfers and the Bikers. Dressed in eye-catching costumes à propos to their team’s name, our players performed routines to “Surfin’ USA” and “Born To Be Wild,” before heading out to the course for a Shamble, a Scramble, and Individual Best Net Ball. The results of this special tournament, sponsored by Oro Valley Eye Care, were Surfers 244.5 points and Bikers 223.5 points. Congratulations, Surfers!

As 2021 comes to a close, so does my writing of SBWGA-18’s golf articles. I had a blast writing them, and I hope you got a chuckle or two reading them. Another member takes over as publicist in January. She’ll do a great job.

Happy New Year! It’s time to tee up!
