Fairwinds at Desert Point residents were the recipients of almost 160 homemade cards when several volunteers from the SaddleBrooke Paper Crafters Club delivered their crafts door-to-door. Each card was made and donated by members of the club. This event was the first of many such future visits planned.
Robert, the assistant manager at this senior residence, gave us permission to tape these handcrafted greeting cards to apartment doors on all three floors. They were cards for all occasions that can be used to send their families and friends. With cards costing upward to $10 each, this could help save these senior citizens some of their money.
The SaddleBrooke Paper Crafters is a group of about 65 women who meet once a month to discuss card making techniques. The meetings start with a social followed by card making presentations, an educational session and sign-ups for monthly Fun Shop classes.
President Abbie Egolf said, “You don’t have to be creative to make these cards. We all help each other and the fun is in sharing our projects at the meetings.” The friends and family who receive our cards rarely throw them out; they are truly ‘works of art.’ Opal’s granddaughter in Hawaii has a huge wall of saved cards made by her grandmother and she refuses to toss them.
Interested in attending a meeting to see what it’s all about? Stop by SaddleBrooke One – Craft Room No. 4 the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. or contact Vice President Sharon Scanlan at [email protected] or call 520-825-5367.
