Every year the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners and the MountainView/Preserve Lady Niners enjoy a fun round of golf together called Across the Brooke. We alternate hosting the tournament and this year it was the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners who welcomed our sisters Across the Brooke to our course. Unfortunately, this year Mother Nature made us hold our breath a bit because we began the day with some spotty sprinkles and clouds; however, we persevered and eventually the clouds and rain gave way to sunshine and eventually a lovely day.
Eighty-eight ladies came together on this Valentine’s Day and fully enjoyed a fun game called Fairway Shots and Putts – the MVPLN group introduced us to this game at their course last year and it was so much fun we decided to keep the format! After our round of golf, we adjourned to the Vistas Dining Room for a delicious lasagna luncheon and of course, red velvet cake for dessert (only fitting for Valentine’s Day!). The event Chairperson Shirley Morris welcomed everyone, especially the pros from both courses, and then our Assistant Pro Troy Jewkes announced our winners for the day:
1st place SaddleBrooke – Hedy Gryszan, Nancy Claffey, Judie Knapp and Barbara Brown
1st place Tucson – Janice Best, Diane Mazzarella, Christine Smith and Laura Benson
Closest to the Pin SaddleBrooke – Judy Schilling (SB) and Barbara Bloch (MVPLN)
Closest to the Pin Tucson – Sheryl Nugent (SB) and Diane Mazzarella (MVPLN)
We want to thank Shirley and her committee for organizing such a terrific event and also Bob Koblewski for taking the photos and putting together a photo show for both groups!
Next up is our annual Club Championship, to be held on March 7, 9 and 14. This tournament is done with Stableford Scoring, with a Low Gross winner. Stay tuned to the next issue for the winners of this important tournament!
