Tucson Airport Authority Chief of Public Safety John Ivanoff spoke at the SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club on November 17 and he talked about his commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for passengers at Tucson International Airport and the users of Ryan Airfield. Through organized response to emergency situations, proactive education and prevention activities, Chief Ivanoff and his team of state certified police officers and fire fighters work around the clock to provide a broad range of programs to protect the airport community from the adverse effects of crime, fire, sudden medical emergency or exposure to dangerous conditions.
Chief Ivanoff supervises a team that protects more than 200 buildings distributed across more than 10,000 acres that include industrial, residential and unimproved property, as well as general aviation reliever airport Ryan Airfield. In his presentation he emphasized how airport teams work closely with a number of other city and county jurisdictions all over southern Arizona to cover a wide variety of activity in and around the public airport facility. Tucson International handles over three-million passengers each year.
Chief Ivanoff spoke briefly about A Brighter TUS, a construction program that includes the creation of two new security checkpoints that are expected to open in the terminal next November. These new checkpoints will replace the existing checkpoints, will implement technology from an established turnstile manufacturer to help ensure access to the areas beyond are better controlled and repurpose some unused space to allow the Transportation Security Administration to process passengers with additional lanes and new screening equipment.
