Gary Greenbaum
Jay Clayton Wilson
Neighbor, pilot, collector of bronze, philanthropist, businessman, opera devotee, retiree, BBQ king and good tennis buddy – that’s the skinny on Gary Greenbaum.
Is anything left out? Yes, according to his wife Diane Korn. She wants to add that Gary is also an outstanding husband who is without equal.
Gary and Diane moved to SaddleBrooke six years ago after retiring from a very successful career as the owner of an investment advisory firm. They hit the ground running as soon as they arrived in Arizona. Gary joined STC, played tennis regularly and was soon elected to the Board of Directors. Diane, who has the heart of a true humanitarian, trained her rescue dog, Latke, to become a therapy dog to comfort disabled children and the elderly. Soon she became a therapy dog evaluator in order to qualify others whose passion is to aid those in need, especially children in hospitals. Diane loves Latke. Gary, well, he walks the dog occasionally.
It can be said that Gary’s dedication to purpose has been the ensign of his entire career. To help pay for his engineering education, he became a commercial pilot who flew cargo, ambulance and tourists around the United States. Afterward he joined a preeminent accounting firm and then a multinational telecommunication entity before establishing his own financial advisory firm. He was an early leader in establishing a compensation program that is presently gaining acceptance among hedge fund operators. Always willing to share ideas, he became a sought-after lecturer in the fields of wealth management and the intricacies of regulatory compliance.
Retirement is but a noun to Gary. Otherwise the term is irrelevant his lifestyle. A high level of community involvement, an active tennis program and extensive travel distinguish him from those who merely grey among the gathering shadows. Driven by a need to remain healthy and active, he joined STC, a SaddleBrooke organization that is totally dedicated to the health and wellbeing of those who live in our community. Several tennis games per week keep his exercise program well advanced above those who chose other sports in retirement. Along with his fellow STC members, he is highly active as a volunteer at the club’s social dances and party events. Serving ice cream seems to define his forte.
Gary’s enthusiasm for tennis and a very active life style would totally consume all of the available time of an ordinary retiree. But we have come to realize that Gary has unusual stamina that is laced with a wide variety of interests and abilities. Consider that he lectures on classic opera, maintains a significant music collection and remains actively involved in the lives of his three children, all of whom are successful in their respective careers.
SaddleBrooke’s tennis players of all levels look to Gary Greenbaum for cheerful comments and sage advice. It is a genuine pleasure for us to call him a good tennis buddy.
