The medals have been ordered, the courts reserved and the members are working hard to polish their Pickleball skills in preparation for the 2015 Members Only Tournament to be held February 19 to 22. Pete Giljohann and Nancy Shelton are the co-directors for this tournament with assistance from Diana Giljohann who is handling registration. The format of the tournament will be either Round Robin or Double Elimination, depending on how many registrants sign up in each USAPA Skill Level. Nancy and Pete will decide the team seeding and brackets and solicit volunteers for line judges, referees and set up. They will organize and orchestrate the actual multiple tournament day schedules, keep track of and record each game and match score and overall manage the tournament. This will be the largest Pickleball tournament ever held at SaddleBrooke!
Spectators are welcome to come and enjoy the competition and camaraderie that SPA members enjoy while playing. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America for active adults who want to remain physically fit and enjoy a team sport. The tournament will take place at the state-of-the-art RidgeView Courts next to the RV parking facility and behind the water company building off RidgeView. First matches will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the semi and final events to be held on Sunday. Women’s doubles will take place on Thursday, February 19, Men’s doubles on Friday, February 20 and Mixed doubles on Saturday, February 21. The final day for members to register is February 14. The $5 entry fee covers the two maximum events that members can play in. Additional information can be found on the SPA website at https://spaclubexpress.com.
