SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network – November 2024

Happy Tail: Rigby

Romayne Trudo

A precious little puppy was dropped off under the portico in SaddleBrooke One on Aug. 16, 2024. He was handed off to a bystander, with the person saying, “The owner can’t afford to keep him,” and then she drove off. No one knew who she was or where she came from. The bystander happened to be Gabriel Telles, a member of the groundskeeping crew at SaddleBrooke One. SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN) was called immediately, and volunteers arrived to pick up the abandoned puppy. It was estimated that he was about 12 weeks old, underweight, dehydrated, and had no collar, no identification, and no microchip.

A plea was put out for a temporary foster to keep him safe until his owner(s) came forward. Immediately, Joanne and Chuck Sanden answered the call to foster the little pup. They had lost their beloved dog Muffin in 2024 and thought it would help them with their grief by helping another dog. While waiting for the owner(s) to come forward, Gabriel offered to give the pup a permanent home if the owner was never found. Gabriel, his wife Melissa, and their 11-year-old son Gabe officially adopted Rigby at the end of August. Their son named him Rigby after a character in a video game that he likes to play.

SBPRN cannot thank Joanne and Chuck enough for stepping up to foster. It gave us the time needed to find him a wonderful home with a little boy and another dog to teach Rigby the ropes. We would also like to thank SaddleBrooke residents for their ongoing support and generosity. Because of you, SBPRN was able to provide the necessary veterinary care Rigby needed to help him have a happy, healthy life. As a special side note, Joanne and Chuck enjoyed having a dog in the house again so much that they quickly adopted another homeless dog named Kasy. This was a win-win for two homeless pets.

Happy Tail: Abi

A precious little puppy was found wandering the streets of Tucson this summer and was taken in by Ruff Rescue. Before being placed up for adoption, she was spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Ruff Rescue called SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN) to let us know that she was available. At about the same time, we received a call from Debbie and Don Grafmiller asking for assistance finding a new dog. They had recently lost their 14-year-old miniature poodle in April and were missing the joy of having a dog in their home. Abi fit the bill perfectly. She is a Cairn Terrier mix, petite, weighs approximately 10 pounds, is 16 months old, and is the sweetest little girl on four paws. Debbie and Don were immediately smitten with her. A home visit was conducted by an SBPRN volunteer, and the rest is history. Once again, our animal-loving community comes to the rescue.

SBPRN Thanksgiving Pie Fundraiser

Order your pies now!

Many people know that SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN) provides funds to our rescue organizations and local shelters with your generous donations and through our Fashion Show fundraiser. However, did you know that SBPRN also has another very important mission? That of rehoming SaddleBrooke pets! If a resident passes or is no longer able to care for their beloved fur baby, SBPRN steps in to find a new home, many times, right here in our wonderful community. In these cases, short-term fosters are found and provided with food, bowls, crates, and beds for the length of the animal’s stay. If vet care is needed in order for the animal to be rehomed, we may need to financially make sure that happens. Unfortunately, we also often have pets abandoned in our community. Most of these poor babies need extensive vet care, and almost all are rehomed to SaddleBrooke residents who have contacted us looking for a new friend to share their life with.

For the first time ever, SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue is thrilled to be holding a Thanksgiving Pie fundraiser to help us continue to support fur babies. We have bakers who are excited to make a fresh, homemade, huge, 10-inch pumpkin or apple pie just for you for the low price of $15 (other bakeries charge as much as $32 for a 10-inch pie)! Supplies are limited and are ordered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call Lisa John at 760-382-5066 no later than Monday, Nov. 18, to reserve your pie!

Pies will be ready for pick-up on Friday, Nov. 22. When you order, Lisa will tell you the pick-up time and place.
